You feel me?

For the longest time, I imagined myself becoming a celebrity. haha... It is quite ridiculous to see me in a shoe of a singer or an actor. Me? singing? acting? hmm... to think of it a little bit more... I think I can do both... hehehe... but not great larrr... Maybe good enough for a school play or a birthday party singer. heh.

The thing about being a celebrity that nag me the most is having to need the right "looks" to be successful. In order to be a "good" singer or actor, one needs to be in a certain shape, certain skin type, certain size, and worst, certain personality *talk about individuality*. Malaysian fans are very demanding and harsh at most times. They want Miss World to be paired up with a lovely voice like Misha Omar or Siti Nurhaliza. But the bias part is, they don't care much about the "looks" of the men. I mean, generally, if Rosham Noor was not groomed up and told to work out, you may not get why tabloid writers are writing about how hot he is and about him being the most eligible man in the movie and drama business. ewww... puhleaseeee... Anyhow, I might be wrong using Rosyam Noor as an example since he won an award for Best Supporting Actor from the 44th Asia Pacific Film Festival in 1999 of his potrayal of an crazy man in Lenjan *have not seen the film yet*. He is one hell of an actor. But then, what I am trying to point out here is about the looks, not the quality of performance.

Take Akademi Fantasia 2 for example. As you may know, one of the contestants, Bob from Sarawak, was not the best looking guy in the bunch. But his voice.... emmm.... emmm.... emmm.... let's just say he could be the "Clay Aiken" of the show *i'm talking about the voice people, not the looks*. Did you hear his version of Salam Terakhir?? My goodness, he was good. He was maybe too good to be true. However, there was just one thing that separated him from the other contestants in which he could not win the hearts of the text messaging people. It was not his voice, but it was his plain natural malay looks. bummer....

I have to confess that I did not vote for him on the show *did not vote for anyone actually* because I thought the text messaging thing was an evil conspiracy of Maxis trying to suck money out of Malays, especially, since the picks of the contestants and the show landscape were tailored for Malay viewers, duhhh... From my experiences watching American Idol (Season 1-3) and other singing talent shows on CBS, Fox, ABC, NBC, etc, I think based on voice talent, Bob should win first prize *he could be second since I think Zahid's overall showmanship was better*. But to get the 5th place, after Linda, Adam, and Farah, you know he did not get the votes that he deserves because they had the "looks" but Bob didn't.

I sincerely hope the Malaysian mentality on the entertainment business do change for the sake of our local artists. Pick the one you think is the best because of their talent, not by their looks. Looks can be gone in a quick second, but talent lasts forever. Think deep people, think deep...

p/s: I wanted Zarina to win, or at least called back instead of Linda. I guess Linda's looks was much better than Zarina... erkk.... what's my point again?
