So last Thursday (on Thanksgiving Day), me, Effy, Nik, and Ama went to Chicago for our shop-till-you-drop trip at Gurnee Mills, IL. The drive from Bloomington, IN to our hotel took about 5 hours. It was a good thing that we were not stuck in a traffic jam for long. My stick shift car can be an annoyance when it comes to traffic jam. As soon as we arrived at Wyndam Hotel in Schamburg, we drove again to Ustaz Khalid's house in Lincolnwood. Met his wife whom we called Umi, and his daugter and son. Ate lodeh, mee rebus, ayam goreng, and orange juice. yummm... malay food maaah... sedapppp... Also joining us were Pn Maharom and her daughter Elinor. Idora was not there coz she has smtg to do. We chatted and watched some tv (Lilo & Stitch, Prince of Egypt) and later left the house when it was dark.
That night we decided to find HFC, aka Halal Fried Chicken, at Devon St after hearing about such a store selling food like a KFC. hahaha... we got so excited and ordered 10 pieces of chickens and a coleslaw. Trying to get back to the hotel before the food gets cold, but sadly, we took the wrong turn on 94 and went all the way up north outside Chicago. hahaha... yeah... it suppose to take only 1/2 hr to get back and we ended up taking additional one hour. huh... lucky that we didn't get as far as Wisconsin.
The next day we all woke up very early (Nik woke up first at 4:15am I think) and headed to Gurnee to shop. Yeah, we arrived there pretty early considering not many shops were open at the time. First shop was GUESS. I did not buy anything from there thinking that I might spend more on GUESS at other department stores. So, Ama and I went our separate ways from Effy and Nik. I ended up spending $150 on 4 handbags, 2 pairs of shoes, 2 fleeces, and one green khakis.
That afternoon, we once again visited Devon St and this time we had lunch at Sabri. Had goat beryani and chicken bothi. Really nice... My favourite restaurant at Devon St. After filling our bellies with awesome food, we headed back home.
Alhamdulillah we are all safe and sound back in town. One more day till the school starts. Heck... I might have a group meeting tomorrow. Ghezzz... When will all these end????
